The course enables the students to acquire basic information about the business opportunities in plant sciences thereby understanding entrepreneur opportunities in plant sciences. It also equips the students with knowledge in sustainable agriculture and organic farming. Students from other disciplines would also be able to generate a basic knowledge on agriculture and farming. Further the course inculcates an enthusiasm and awareness about ornamental gardening, nursery management, floriculture and mushroom cultivation.

The course helps the students to understand the objectives of plant breeding and the methods of crop improvement. This course enables the student to understand the basics in plant breeding and equip them with different methods of crop improvement.

The course defines plant breeding systems and self-incompatibility and their role in plant breeding in plants and apply different plant breeding techniques along with reproductive biology of plants.

The course helps to develop skill in designing a research work, scientific writing and research communication. It also Involve in research activities with knowledge on intellectual property right, laboratory etiquettes and bioethics.
